Anxiety. Everyone experiences anxiety to some extent. A little anxiety about an exam may push you to study harder, and worrying about a car crash means you’ll never forget your seat belt. However, there is a point where anxiety becomes consuming and debilitating to the person affected. Too much anxiety about an exam may cause you to forget everything you studied, and worrying too much about a car crash may keep you from getting in a car. Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental illness in the U.S. and they manifest in different ways.

Symptoms of Anxiety. Whether it’s worrying about someone’s perception of you, how an interview will go, or something bad happening to you or your loved ones, anxiety is often the fear of something that hasn’t happened yet. Rapid heart rate, irritability, headaches, insomnia, stomach aches, and an inability to focus are common signs and symptoms of anxiety disorders. When these symptoms become uncontrollable and interfere with your daily functioning, it is important to seek help.
