Meet April Sumter
April Sumter received her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Columbia College. Currently, she is a student at South University (Columbia Campus) enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. She is expected to graduate March 2021 from the Mental Health Counseling program.
During her practicum experience, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been her model of therapy utilized with her clients/patients. Changing the irrational thoughts of person to rational thoughts encourages positive decision making. The population she has served are teenagers and adults during her practicum experience. She understands that no one theory and/or technique fits all, therefore; it is important to incorporate other theories for the person’s problem. She has completed professional developments about depression, anxiety, suicide, and addiction. She continues to read and participate in webinars to enhance her knowledge to utilize in practice to become an efficient counselor. She believes in treating the mind, body, and spirit of the whole person.
April is a resident of Columbia, South Carolina. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and volunteering in the community with Lambda Psi Alpha Sorority, Inc.
April is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), South Carolina Counseling Association (SCCA), and a member of Sigma Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota- the International Honor Society for Professional Counselors.
April is an intern and under Supervision of Kayce Bragg, LPC-SC (# 6055), LAC (#369)
