ABOUT CAROLYN ABRAHAMZON

Carolyn Abrahamzon is originally from Mississippi, but currently resides in Columbia, South Carolina. She graduated with a B.A. in Human Development and Family Studies from American Military University in 2020 and is currently completing her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Trauma and Crisis focus from Walden University. She is on track to graduate in November 2022.

During her time at Walden, Carolyn has completed diverse coursework including courses on career counseling, couples and family counseling, and group facilitation. Her volunteer work has allowed her to gain experience working with individuals in crisis and new parents experiencing postpartum mood disorders. Her personal experience has cultivated a deep personal interest in trauma, crisis, and attachment, particularly regarding children, adoptees, and current/former foster youth. This is an area that Carolyn will focus on during her clinical training.

Carolyn views counseling as a collaborate effort between client and counselor, with her role being predominantly to provide a safe space for introspection, discovery, and growth, while offering targeted interventions to assist and support clients through the process. She sees value in approaches that empower clients to see the abilities they already possess, such as person-center therapy and narrative therapy, and seeks to meet every client where they are with a diverse toolkit of theoretical approaches to ensure each client is supported in the best way possible for them.

When she isn’t working or studying, Carolyn enjoys playing with her two young children, advocating for adoptee rights, and training for powerlifting meets.
