I specialize in working with adult individuals by helping them address what has been getting in their way to feeling fulfilled. They’re looking for lasting change, have a desire to move forward from past struggles with trauma, anxiety, grief, self-esteem, relationship struggles and overall bad habits that are difficult to move through on their own.
As your therapist, I can help you identify where your thoughts, beliefs and habits may he holding you back. We can compassionately but directly look at the pain you have experienced in your life. Together, we will create an environment where you give yourself permission to begin to let go of what no longer serves you.
I’ll be “holding space” for you as we navigate each small step towards getting you where you want to be.
About Amy Enkling, MA, LMHC, BSP
Amy is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in Florida and can see clients who are physically located anywhere throughout the state of Florida.
Amy received graduate honors throughout her career, including Chi Sigma Iota honors in Counselor Education, and received a graduate scholarship award from the University of Central Florida, and was awarded a stipend from the University of Central Florida Counseling and Testing Center.
Amy enjoys working with older adolescents and adults who struggle with overcoming trauma, anxiety, depression, individual relationship struggles, and a variety of life concerns. She also has a strong clinical focus on helping others to improve work life balance, self-esteem, self-empowerment, relationship distress and divorce. Amy uses cognitive-behavioral therapy, along with teaching mindfulness and personal awareness to help clients begin to better understand the interconnection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
She is also certified in Brainspotting (BSP), a trauma therapy that was founded through EMDR, which is a treatment technique that uses eye position that “..locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain.” This approach is specific and self-directed in sessions. Please don’t hesitate to ask more about using this technique.
Before moving to Florida from upstate New York, Amy found her passion for her field through a work-study position at a community college counseling center. Before entering private practice, Amy worked in inpatient, outpatient, and in jail substance abuse facilities and programs. She also served as a consultant for both inpatient therapy and skilled nursing facilities.
Amy has organized a peer group for fellow Brainspotting practitioners and served on her local counseling chapter board — the Suncoast Mental Health Counselors Association as Secretary. She’s made significant contributions to this organization that provides continuing education units for licensed mental health counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists and licensed clinical social workers.
Clients have often said they find Amy to be, “real” as she is sometimes inclined to use a bit of humor in session, as this helps lead clients to feel comfortable speaking freely in sessions, which allows them to work on all aspects of life that have proven challenging or traumatic.
Amy sees the good in people, and believes that everyone is doing the best they can with what they have in that moment. She believes we are always “becoming”. Our life is a constant work in progress. The mission behind her practice is to help lead you on a path to living your passions, finding purpose in your life, and leading your most ideal life possible–truly loving yourself, and your decisions, with no regrets.
Amy currently lives in Florida and as she comes from a personal training background, she continues to enjoy health and fitness, outdoor activities and events, and is an avid solo traveler.
