Learn more about therapy with me!

I specialize in working with families in the military community who struggle with military life to blend in with their civilian life in the midst of all of life’s other responsibilities. If you’re looking for a place where you can set down all of those burdens and get to the heart of the anxiety, grief, trauma, or other challenges you’re facing look no further.

I am also very interested in assisting the LGQBTIA+ population with their daily struggles of finding and loving themselves, as well as fitting in in today’s society. As your therapist, I will offer you a space where you can feel safe, understood, and free to show up as your true self. I’m not showing up with pre-conceived notions, and I’m not here to tell you “what” to do. Instead, we’ll work as a team to identify the steps you need to start making forward progress in your life. I’ll come alongside you as a partner on your journey, where every step we take is guided by your goals for healing, progress, and growth.

About Jamie Thap, BS

Jamie A. Thap is a resident of NE Columbia, South Carolina. She received her B.S. in Business Administration from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in December 2001 and completed her Graduate Certificate for Systemic Couple and Family Therapy in June 2021. She is currently completing her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University. She will graduate in the Summer of 2025.

Through her undergraduate and graduate studies, Jamie found her compassion in helping others, especially after all her volunteering in the military community for 17 years in which she also received numerous prestigious awards. She continued her compassion by continuing her education in classes focusing on Couples, Marriage, and family therapy as a systemic unit. As well as diversity and social justice within the unit and using systemic approaches with children of all ages.

Jamie is a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Delta Kappa Pi and The National Society of Leadership (NSLS) and Success honor society programs. The Pi chapter & NSLS are for professional therapists and students who exemplify competent, professional skills and leadership.

Jamie believes that seeking help is an act of bravery, not cowardice. She strives to help the community (especially military families) by breaking the stigma behind receiving therapy. She is open-minded, compassionate, and culturally sensitive, especially since she has lived throughout the USA and overseas, and she listens without judgment.  She can see everyone in a family unit from birth to adulthood.

Outside of counseling, Jamie enjoys spending time with her husband, four kids, and grandson. She also finds joy in traveling, volunteering within the military community, reading educational literature, and attending educational conventions to continue improving her knowledge within her field.
