Kayce Bragg is a Board-Certified Licensed Professional Counselor, Supervisor Candidate, and a Licensed Addiction Counselor in the state of South Carolina and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Kansas and Georgia. She also is registered to provide telehealth services in Florida. She has been working in the community mental health field since 2011 as the current Clinical Director for a statewide non-profit organization that serves adults with severe and persistent mental illness such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and various other Mood/Psychotic Disorders.

Pandemic Isolation and Online Therapy.

Kayce spoke with The Atlanta Business Chronicle and Tonya Layman about Pandemic isolation and how it has increased stress. “A number of our clients had underlying issues before the pandemic,” she said. “People have definitely been lonelier. We are seeing reports that say with quarantines that last 10 or more days, there is increased probability of [post-traumatic stress disorder] PTSD in the weeks or months following.”

During shutdowns Online Therapy has helped!

“There is research showing telehealth is just as effective as face to face,” she added. “They can meet from the comfort of their homes or wherever they are comfortable opening up. I often have clients who meet with me from their car on their lunch break because that is when they can get away. They can maybe manage the kids without having to hire a babysitter and drivetime to [a therapist’s] office doesn’t eat into their schedules.”

Bragg said that many of her clients have suffered more severe depression and anxiety in the last year as they worry about money, jobs and loved ones while juggling unusual circumstances and new responsibilities. “There is no boundary these days between work and home, and burnout levels are higher than before,” she said. To combat that in part, Bragg added, “we need to start setting better boundaries with ourselves and having those difficult conversations about protecting our time figuratively, ‘away from the office.’”
